The World Cup's round of 16 continues to deliver thrilling contests as Portugal and Spain prepare to face off for a place in the quarter finals on Monday evening.

Arlington's Dallas Stadium will host a rematch of the memorable 2018 encounter between the Iberian neighbours, who played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Sochi.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for the Selecao in the six-goal thriller which kicked off their Group B campaign as both nations finished in the top two spots.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is still going strong however it was all but confirmed ahead of this latest fixture that he is taking part in his sixth and final World Cup as a player.

But who will be presiding over the spectacle in Texas?

Anthony Taylor has been confirmed as the referee for the Texas showdown after spending over 16 years operating predominantly in the Premier League.

The 47-year-old previously took charge of two group matches at this World Cup in Senegal's 5-0 win over Iraq and Colombia's 3-1 victory against Uzbekistan.

Taylor, who hails from Greater Manchester, boasts experience officiating 838 competitive matches and has been a FIFA's approved list of referees since 2013.

His disciplinary record is averaging at close to four yellow cards per game while he awarded a penalty once every five games in the English top flight last season.

Two of Taylor's compatriots and fellow Premier League officials will be working alongside him in Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn as the game's assistant referees.

German duo Felix Zwayer and Robert Kempter are set to serve as fourth official and reserve assistant referee respectively for the contest in the Lone Star State.

Taylor has previously refereed five matches involving Spain and four with Portugal.
